NAVY SEALS SLANG YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW BEFORE SIGNING UP

NAVY SEAL is an acronym that stands for Sea, Air, and Land. And just like police slang, a lot of the vernacular used by SEALs consists of acronyms.

Learn what it means to be called all sort of names in this collection of Navy SEAL slang.
1. Flash Bang
Meaning: A stun grenade used by SEAL teams in the field.  
Use It In A Sentence: "The SEAL used a flash bang to disorientate the enemy during the rescue mission."
2.The head
Meaning: The bathroom on a ship.
Use It In A Sentence: "I drank too many neats. I gotta hit the head." 
3. Ring out
Meaning: A BUD/S trainee who has had enough during an exercise will ring a bell three times, signaling they want to quit.  
Use It In A Sentence: "Five tadpoles rang out yesterday. I wonder how many will be done by the end of the week."
4.BUD/S
Meaning: Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training. BUD/S is a grueling 6-month training course with a high dropout rate. It is considered one of the most mentally and physically challenging training programs in the world. 
Use It In A Sentence: "If a SEAL can finish BUD/S, then he's both mentally and physically prepared for combat." 
5.Fast rope
Meaning: How a SEAL descends from a helicopter, using a special rope and sliding without the use of a harness or carabiner. 
Use It In A Sentence: "I had to fast rope onto the ship from a helicopter!"
6.Sugar cookie
Meaning: A form of punishment for when a trainee fails uniform inspection. The trainee is told to walk out into the water, get wet, then roll around on the beach until completely covered with sand. They must remain covered in sand for the rest of the day. 
Use It In A Sentence: "Mike's punishment for an untied shoelace was a sugar cookie at 0600."
7.Bullfrog
Meaning: A title given to the operator most removed from the BUD/S training program. 
Use It In A Sentence: "Brian's our bullfrog since he's been in service the longest." 
8.BANANA
Meaning: An insult geared at a student taking part in BUD/S. 
Use It In A Sentence: "The banana could hardly make it past the first day of training." 
9.Circus
Meaning: Any trainee who fails to qualify for the day's minimum marks in physical tests is required to do two hours of calisthenics at the end of the day, AKA circus. 
Use It In A Sentence: "The tadpole had to face the circus today for failing to finish the five-mile swim."
10.Non-Qual
Meaning: A person who did not make it through BUD/S.
Use It In A Sentence: "Despite being a triathlete, Billy was a non-qual after failing to make it out of training."
