The Armed Forces College of Medicine and Health Sciences (AFCOM&HS) is a tri-service military medical institution in Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria, established to train doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals for the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Clinicals: Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria (utilizing facilities such as the 68 Nigerian Army and 661 Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospitals). It will be admitting an initial batch of 100 cadets for the 2026/2027 academic session. Managed and listed through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), because JAMB has approved the enlistment of admission on its portal for intakes.
The curriculum structure includes an 8-year program comprising 6 years of academic medical training, 1 year of military training, and 1 year of housemanship. Upon graduation, medical cadets are commissioned as captains or equals in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
It operates under the structure of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to help close the manpower gap in military healthcare. Previously the armed forces got much of it from top doctors from the private sector; already existing doctors applied via the Direct Short Service Recruiting Program. Right now the armed forces will train complete beginners into full-fledged medical personnel and officers for 8 years.
More details coming soon.
