The Nigerian Defence Academy, established in 1964 and based in Kaduna, trains young Nigerians as officer cadets for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Every intake is given a course number, and candidates who make it into a particular set become coursemates who train and graduate together. The 78 Regular Combatant Course, shortened to 78RC, is simply the 78th set admitted since the Academy began numbering its regular intakes.
Being named on the 78RC list matters because it caps a long process that started with the JAMB-UTME, moved through a screening exercise, and ended with the Armed Forces Selection Board. Successful candidates get a fully sponsored 5 years militrary and educational training that ends with a degree and a commission as an officer, which is why the list is checked so closely every year.
