Gender Equality:First batch of 19 women cadets join India NDA/

After the Supreme Court paved the way for women to take the National Defence Academy (NDA) exam last year, the first batch of 19 cadets have joined the tri-services academy in Khadakwasla, Pune.

The cadets will be a part of the NDA (Women)’s 148th course, and will report on Tuesday.

These cadets will undergo the same training as their male counterparts and will train at the NDA for three years. After this, they will be transferred to their specific services for further training, sources added.

In November 2021, 1.77 lakh women had appeared for the NDA exam, Minister of State Ajay Bhatt told Parliament. The final list of selected candidates for this exam was published on 14 June, 2022.

According to reports, out of the 19 women selected, ten will join the army, six the air force, and three will be in the navy.

Further reports suggest that 147,000 women registered for the 2022 NDA exam. This was nearly 22 percent of the total 669,000 applications received. The NDA exam is held twice every year – in April and September.

In September 2021, the Supreme Court permitted women candidates to appear for entrance examinations for the first time.

The NDA is the joint defence service training centre of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and the Indian Navy. Cadets of the three services train here before being sent to the training centres of their specific services.

It was formally inaugurated on 16 January, 1955 by then Chief Minister of Bombay State, Morarji Desai. The NDA has the “unique distinction of being the first institution in the world to impart joint training to officer Cadets of the Army, Navy and Air Force”.

In more than 70 years of service, the NDA has produced nearly 40,000 officers for the Indian military and more than 900 from foreign countries. Graduates of NDA have received three Param Vir Chakras, twelve Ashok Chakras, and thirty-two Maha Vir Chakras, among other honours.

MY EXPERIENCE AT THE NIGERIAN ARMY SHORT SERVICE COMBATANT COURSE 46/2020 SELECTION BOARD.

MY EXPERIENCE AT THE NIGERIAN ARMY SHORT SERVICE COMBATANT COURSE 46/2020 SELECTION BOARD. . .

It has always been a thing of Passion and Admiration for me to join The Nigerian Army since my Childhood days. As I was growing up, that passion grew with me. Although I never went to any Military School or The Academy, (It was on my mind, but through guidance from a lot of people, I was advised to complete my Tertiary Education first) I kept the Dream and was looking forward to when I would apply. The chance came in 2018, then I applied for the Short Service Course (I had done a lot of Research about SSC and DSSC, coupled with various Consultations, I then concluded that SSC was best for me). I was so optimistic and certain that I would be selected to the extent that I sew my Navy blue shorts from a Tailor and was also exercising daily despite the nature of my job (Factory Worker). The list came out, I wasn’t selected and I was really depressed. I pulled myself together and continued living.
I applied when the form came out last year and wasn’t as optimistic as before. It was my friend who rang to inform me that my name was shortlisted. To be honest here, I wasn’t excited. I was having doubts whether to attend Screening or not (for a lot of reasons I cannot explain right now). I made Spiritual Consultations and was told to proceed.
On 22nd November, 2019, I boarded a Vehicle going to Kano from Abuja and alighted opposite the Screening Venue (Ribadu Cantonment, Old Nigerian Defence Academy Site, Kaduna). I stayed at the Entrance for a while and was observing the environs. I watched as my Fellow Candidates were moving around, some were purchasing things they would need at the venue and others hanging around. I saw Candidates wearing their White and Blue Salalas before entering the main gate; I decided I was going to wear mine inside the venue. As I passed the Soldiers at the gate, I was called back and told that if I was for the screening then I needed to wear my salala before entering. I obeyed (who was I never to anyway?).
I then took took a bike to the Quarter Guard. Here, we were being received by Military men in uniforms and muftis. My traveling bag was scrutinized for any prohibited items like sharp objects, etc. thereafter I entered my name in the paper made available for my state and then joined the others in sitting inside the sun, waiting for when our states would be attended to. Since it was 19 states that was expected for the second batch of the screening, the states were arranged alphabetically (4 states per officer for documentation). Also, Chest Numbers were issued to everyone here (This is a Semi-Apron-Like royal blue tag consisting a two-lettered abbreviation of your state of origin and number. Throughout the exercise, this chest numbers substituted our names. You would hear things like; “Zamfara 30, jump up” and so on and so forth). We were 38 out of 60 that came in my state, with a single female. Throughout the Screening, there was a high level of orderliness that was maintained. Kudos to the Board members and the Nigerian Army!
The Screening Board Members consisted of a Major-General (The President of the Board), a Brigadier-General, 2 Colonels, A Lieutenant-Colonel (who was the Board Secretary), 2 Majors, 3 Captains (one of them was the Administrative Officer) and a Lieutenant. (I can’t remember the rest members now).
We were shown to our respective hostels where we would be staying throughout the exercise (Just few days to the end of the screening, we were moved to another accommodation because of the officers that came for the Chief of Army Staff Conference). We were also fed thrice daily for the whole of the exercise.
The first stage of the screening was the evaluation of our credentials to ascertain whether the Army’s criterion was met. Here, discrepancies in result, age, or any forged documents were detected. A lot of candidates were disqualified on this basis.
The second stage was the “Almighty” Medical evaluation. The reason I call it “Almighty” is because more than half of the candidates were usually evicted at this stage for various medical conditions that are not acceptable according to the standards of the Nigerian Army.
X-RAY: The medical examinations were done in batches. For my own state, we first went to the Medical Reception Station for our X-Ray. We were made to pull our shirts, stand in front of the machine and asked to breathe. Within minutes, the film of the X-Ray was ready. This process was very fast. Some people were reviewed for this stage.
The next stage was done at the 1 Division hospital, New NDA site. Candidates were conveyed by luxurious buses and military escorts to the hospital. As we alighted from the bus, we were made to sit down in the sun according to our states and by our chest numbers. The Lieutenant-Colonel in charge of the Medicals came to address us. He asked us to stand on our feet and then as he was moving around, he wrote down the chest numbers of some candidates (Someone later said he was noting people for heights, others said it was to see the “young” old men in our midst).

RUSSIA UKRAINE CONFLICT SIMPLY EXPLAINED.

You may have been wondering why this world super power Russia have been headline this days, what do they want, and who are they having issues with,
lets get it simplified before you get bored.

Why  Russia vs Ukraine ?

Ukraine, which was part of the Russian empire for centuries before becoming a Soviet republic, won independence as the USSR broke up in 1991. It tries to shatter  its Russian imperial ties and forge increasingly close ties with the West.

A decision by Kremlin-leaning Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to reject an association agreement with the European Union in favour of closer ties with Moscow led to mass protests that saw him removed as leader in 2014.

Russia responded by annexing Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula and throwing its weight behind a separatist rebellion that broke out in Ukraine’s east.

Ukraine and the West accused Russia of sending its troops and weapons to back the rebels. Moscow denied that, saying the Russians who joined the separatists were volunteers.

According to Kyiv, more than 14,000 people have died in the fighting that devastated Donbas, Ukraine’s eastern industrial heartland.

For its part, Moscow has strongly criticised the US and its NATO allies for providing Ukraine with weapons and holding joint drills, saying that such moves encourage Ukrainian hawks to try to regain the rebel-held areas by force.

Furthermore, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said Ukraine’s aspirations to join NATO are a red line, and expressed concern about plans by some NATO members to set up military training centres in Ukraine. This, he has said, would give them a military foothold in the region even without Ukraine joining NATO.
What does Russia want?

7 reasons you should not marry a Soldier Man,You will agree with number 7.

risky

In our previous post, we discussed  10 reasons you should not marry a male soldier/officer, Now we are looking at reasons you should  marry marry a soldier man.

1.      Risky: The job of a military man come with many risk especially those in combat unit, position, some will lose their body parts, some will not lose anything while some will pay the ultimate sacrifice. And when they die , the family is worst hit, after final respect , that’s all, get compensated if any at all, then you are on your own to navigate the stormy walk of life.

It’s all over the previous and current headline, two lover birds bond fatally crashed months to their marriage, as the husband a soldier man die in line of duty, a soldier die just months of enlisting, a soldier dies after his wife just delivered a baby, and so many pitiable stories like that have occurred too much, you must have heard of them, in today’s hostile environment, military personnel today have become target of non-state actors who sworn to avenge the misdeed of the previous or current administration against, and it’s the soldier life that pay for it.

Most times you don’t know when tragedy struck and it happen so quick and fast you aren’t expecting it what if he dies.

2.    Distance relationship :

Long-Distance Relationships by the Numbers: Infographic=allformilitary

Ladies have this funny idea of them looking for a man who give them attention all the time, unfortunately a military man is not in that option, most times he will be deployed to frontier or duty, might be abroad on a peacekeeping mission or course, or another base that might not accommodate a partner. He won’t always have the luxury of speaking to you even if there is technological means, You will have to be alone, nurse your feelings alone, take care of the children alone, its more frightening when he is deployed to hostile fronts, the prayers, fasting you will go through, probably you ask a wife of a retired Seasoned Infantry officer what she went through with her husband . If you can’t cope with long distance relationship, don’t bother marry one!

3.    Location and deployment:

You are most likely to live in a barracks, and the lifestyle there is quite different from your civilian neighborhood, there are rules which must be kept, it’s even hierarchical in nature, officers accommodation is different from soldiers of other ranks, you don’t just accommodate any kind of person, in your home.

Many transfer will cause you to change friends, loose friends, change your kids schools several times, and if you have a business or job you will have to adapt to fit in to your husband deployment,

4.    If you can’t be faithful:

The Reason Reason Why Being a Military Wife is So Hard

Don’t marry him , if you know you can’t keep to your words, remember he will be away most times, how do you see to the need of sexual pleasure without defiling your marriage. There is even a myth that Military men do cheat! Due to the fact that the time and distance away from each other, they too find a means to satisfy sexual urge, which cheating may be part of it.

African countries with Previous military regime in governmen, some rs have this possessive idea of women, during those regime, military men frolick with women around the base, marry different women all locations they are posted to without the women knowing their marital status, lied and gave birth to babies all around, until the issue of HIV/Aids came up, However to day ,due to good education and exposure , such practice have declined.
