US and Israel test out long-range missile as tension with Iran rocket

The US and Israel launched their Arrow 3 missile days after Iran tested a new mid-range ballistic missile in an apparent sign of defiance towards Washington's demands to end their nuclear development programme. The test of the jointly developed defence system was hailed as a "major milestone" in the collaboration between the US and Israeli military. Speaking following the launch at the Pacific Spaceport Complex-Alaska, Missile Defence Agency director Vice-Admiral Jon Hill said: "These successful tests mark a major milestone in the development of the Arrow Weapon System.

"This unique success in Alaska provides confidence in future Israeli capabilities to defeat the developing threats in the region.
"We are committed to assisting the government of Israel in upgrading its national missile defense capability to defend the State of Israel from emerging threats.”
Moshe Patel, the director of the Israel Missile Defense Organisation, insisted the success of the tests in Alaska demonstrated the Arrow 3 defence system could help both Israel and the US face "any threat."
Mr Patel said: "Ten challenging years of development have culminated in this moment - the Arrow 3 weapon system completed a test campaign, during which an Arrow 3 interceptor completed full interception of the target.

"In addition, the fact that the tests were conducted in Alaska, tens of thousands of kilometers away from Israel, is another significant achievement that demonstrates the operational capabilities of the Arrow 3 system to successfully face any threat."
Tension has been mounting in the Middle East as Tehran and the US continue to engage in a series of skirmishes over US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw his support from the Iran nuclear deal.
The agreement, originally brokered by former US President Barak Obama, was aimed at monitoring and controlling Iran's nuclear capabilities.
Earlier this month President Trump announced a new swathe of sanctions against Tehran after the Iranian Government confirmed they would exceed the limits of enriched uranium they are permitted to hold under the deal.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif warned the US the Middle East is "ready to explode" as he called on Washington to stop arming countries in the region.
Speaking to NBC, Mr Zarif said: "American weaponry is going into our region, making our region ready to explode.
“If they want to talk about our missiles, they need first to stop selling all these weapons, including missiles.”
US State Secretary Mike Pompeo offered to travel to Tehran for emergency talks with the regime but later claimed he had been rejected.
The tension continues......

10 FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ISRAELI DEFENSE FORCE BEFORE TOMMORROW

 top fact about IDF
  1. In the early spring 2018, tens of thousands of Palestinians led violent uprisings against Israeli security infrastructures and the IDF. As Hamas in Gaza used its civilians as human shields, IDF planes dropped leaflets along the Gaza border warning Palestinian civilians not to approach the security fence or participate in any terrorist activities. While the IDF understands that warning civilians of upcoming retaliations of terrorist personnel and infrastructure could cause operational disadvantages, the IDF has yet again shown its true colors as the most moral army, attempting to minimize collateral damage within the Gazan population.
  2. In August 2018, the Israeli Air Force appointed the first female commander of an IAF squadron. The 34 year-old was promoted to a Lieutenant Colonel after serving for 15 years in the IAF. This promotion came in the context of other important promotions for women serving in the IDF, including the army’s first four female tank commanders.
  3. There are currently 176,500 active soldiers serving in the IDF.
  4. Israel’s Airforce is ranked No. 1 in the world due to its space assets, advanced fighter jets, high-tech armed drones and nuclear weapons. Israeli’s military is ranked No. 1 in the Middle East.
  5. The IDF is one of the world’s most informal and least hierarchical armies. Its officers do not come from academies, but rather rise through the ranks solely on the basis of their leadership and command capabilities. Officers often sleep and eat with their soldiers and the army makes scant use of saluting and parades.
  6. The IDF requires conscription, meaning that every 18 year old—male and female—is required to serve. Men must serve for three years and women for two. Released soldiers continue serving as reservists into their early 50s, contributing up to over a month’s worth of service each year, both training and active service.
  7. Women typically do not serve in combat roles, though there are female pilots and infantry units that allow women. According to the IDF, 535 female Israeli soldiers were been killed in combat operations between 1962-2016 (the number killed before 1962 is unknown). Women can avoid conscription through a religious exemption, in which more than third of Israeli women do.
  8. Israel is the only country in the world that requires the deaf and hearing impaired to serve in the military. Sign language interpreters are provided during training and many of them serve in noncombat capacities such as mappers, office work, etc.
  9. Since 2006, the IDF has fought in four major engagements, including the Second Lebanon War.Image result for top fact about IDF
  10. IDF troops do not deploy; they protect Israel, its borders and its people.The IDF have their own version of the Navy SEALs called Shayetet 13. The unit is one of the most secretive in the Israeli military and the details of many missions and the identities of active operatives are highly classified. The unit’s motto is, “As the bat emerges from the darkness, As the blade cuts through with silence, As the grenade smashes in rage.” The unit trains extensively in Krav Maga and all manner of weapons. The unit is referred to by others in the military as the “people of silence.”

Russia Plans $63M Military-Patriotic Youth Education Center – RBC

Russia plans to educate youngsters in military-patriotic themes in a new $63 million facility at its sprawling military-themed park outside Moscow, the RBC news website reported Monday.
 russia patriotic youth
The militarization of young Russians has been a controversial topic in the past several years, with President Vladimir Putin’s establishment of the Youth Army in late 2015 drawing comparisons to the Hitler Youth. With around half a million members aged 8-18, the Youth Army hopes to reach 1 million members by 2020.
 russia patriotic youthHigh schoolers will once a year gather for a weeklong “military-patriotic education” camp at the Russian Defense Ministry’s $350 million Patriot Park west of Moscow, RBC cited two ministry officials as saying
“We’re discussing if [attendance at the youth education center] will be part of a compulsory or voluntary program,” one of the sources was quoted as saying.
The Moscow city and Moscow region administrations will each contribute 2 billion rubles ($31.5 million) to the project, according to one of the sources.
The “Avangard” teaching center’s construction is expected to begin in September.
The latest move comes months after state television launched a new channel targeting Russia’s youth with 24/7 programming dedicated entirely to World War II. In March, security officials announced that delinquent youngsters would be sent to military-patriotic reeducation camps.

Britain sends extra military personnel to Bahrain to help protect ships in Gulf

The Royal Navy vessel HMS Duncan w
HMS Duncan will support the safe passage of British-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz
The handful of extra forces will be part of the UK Maritime Component Command. The move comes after the arrival of a second major British warship in the Gulf as the crisis over Iran's seizure of a UK-flagged tanker stretches well into its second week.
The Royal Navy's HMS Duncan will support the safe passage of British-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz, where the Stena Impero was detained by Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard earlier this month.
Iran targeted Britain after Royal Marines helped to seize an Iranian super tanker off the coast of Gibraltar in early July on suspicion it was carrying oil bound for Syria in breach of EU sanctions.

The Ministry of Defence said HMS Duncan would work alongside HMS Montrose to "ensure the continuous availability of ships to accompany merchant vessels".
Last week the government said the Royal Navy has been tasked to accompany British-flagged ships through the strait to try and provide reassurance to the shipping industry.
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: "Freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is vital not just to the UK, but also our international partners and allies.
Merchant ships must be free to travel lawfully and trade safely, anywhere in the world. I'm pleased that HMS Duncan will continue HMS Montrose's fine work in helping to secure this essential route.
"While we continue to push for a diplomatic resolution that will make this possible again without military accompaniment, the Royal Navy will continue to provide a safeguard for UK vessels until this is the reality."
About a fifth of the world's oil travelled through the strait between Iran and Oman in 2018.
On Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani indicated that the Stena Impero could be released if the UK returns Iran's Grace 1 super tanker.
Stena Bulk, which owns the British-flagged tanker, said embassy officials had met crew members from their respective countries.
In a statement on Saturday the company said: "Stena Bulk and Northern Marine Management continue to work closely with the authorities to secure the release of the Stena Impero and its 23 crew members.
"Feedback from the officials is that the crew are in good health and they appreciated the interaction with their government representatives.
"The crew members continue to have limited contact with family members, who we continue to support during this difficult time."
Tensions in the region were heightened after Donald Trump withdrew last year from a nuclear agreement made four years ago with six world powers.
The US president re-imposed sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the pact.
Under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran agreed to eliminate its stockpile of medium-enriched uranium, cut its stockpile of low-enriched uranium and reduce the number of its gas centrifuges for 13 years.
But Mr Trump said the deal did not go far enough to curb what he describes as Iran's malign activities. He wants Tehran to return to the negotiating table to agree a new deal.

The mystery of Point-5353 india:Did Army try to retake it

DRASS: As the country celebrates two decades of its victory in the Kargil conflict, there is ambiguity about a contentious area known as Point-5353 - one of the highest and strategic peaks near Line of Control in Drass sector of Jammu & Kashmir.
The mystery of Point-5353: INDIA PAK
The top Army commanders who led the Indian response 20 years ago have claimed that Point-5353 was occupied by the Pakistan army prior to the Kargil conflict and that the Indian Army never attempted to capture it in 1999.

However, the Kargil war despatches, accessed by TOI, have indicated that the Army had made an unsuccessful attempt to capture the important geographical feature.

The despatches, exchanged regarding military operations, have revealed that a team led by Major Navneet Mehta of 16-Granadiers had tried to capture Point-5353. The post was used as an artillery observation post by Pakistan troops.

Col Puspinder Oberoi, the then commanding officer of 16 Granadiers regiment, in a communication to his superiors during the war, said: "Two attacks were made by troops of my battalion on Point-5353. Maj Navneet Mehta and 30 men carried out attack."

"We reached the base of the cliff and tried to go up... We ended up having 13 casualties …The attacking column developed chest congestion … along with wounds due to continuous attempts. Thus, the attack had to be called off...," says the communication sent by Mehta to his commanding officer.

When TOI contacted General VP Malik, who led the Kargil war, he claimed: "The LoC in this area was drawn in 1972 by joining several heights (points) with straight lines. The line went over Point-535 ..

Here’s what it takes to join South Africa’s army in 2019

The Western Cape government recently published an outline of the requirements for joining the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
According to the outline, one of the most common ways to currently enter the SANDF is through the Military Skills Development System (MSDS).
The MSDS is a Department of Defence programme that serves as the entry-level platform for young South Africans who want to follow a career in the SANDF.
Under the MSDS, new recruits undergo an initial period of two years of voluntary service.
In the first year, you will receive military training and further functional training. In the second year, you will be deployed as per the SANDF’s operational requirements.
After the two years, you will either continue as part of the Reserve Force or receive a contract offer to join the Regular Force.
Selected members with the required academic qualifications may also be sent to universities or the military academy.
MSDS members will receive wages for the duration of their two-year full-time training and utilisation.
Speaking to BusinessTech an SANDF spokesperson said that they were unable to provide exact salary information regarding the MSDS programme due to the high number of scams targeting prospective trainees.
In October 2018 the SANDF warned that scams were targeting vulnerable youth through various social media platforms.
“The public is warned to ignore and report these fraudulent activities instigated by faceless charlatans aimed at swindling unsuspecting and vulnerable youth of their money,” it said.
Requirements for the MSDS programme
To qualify for the MSDS programme, you should:
  • Be a South African citizen;
  • Be aged between 18 and 22 years (graduates up to the age of 26 years);
  • Be currently busy with the National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or have completed it;
  • Not be area-bound;
  • Have no record of a criminal offence;
  • Preferably be single;
  • Comply with medical fitness requirements for appointment in the South African National Defence Force;
  • Be prepared to do basic military training, functional training and to serve in uniform.
There are a number of additional specialised requirements for citizens looking to enter the South African Air Force (SAAF)Navy (SAN) and the Military Health Service (SAMHS).
As noted above, there is also a clear distinction in the type of training you will receive over your two years of voluntary service:
In the first year of MSDS you can expect:
  • Basic military training and functional training;
  • Corps-specific training;
  • Participation in practical military exercises;
  • Combat-ready training exercises;
  • Selection of junior leaders.
In the second year of MSDS you can expect:
  • To undergo young officers formative training;
  • Junior leaders (officers) will receive leader group corps training;
  • A selection process for officers to study at the Military Academy;
  • A focus on the utilisation and deployment of MSDS troops

Feds warn UFO enthusiasts against storming Area 51: The military 'stands ready'

Image result for what is area 51 all aboutThey've got a plan to raid Area 51 and "see them aliens." But what will happen if they actually do it?
Over one million people have signed up to a joke Facebook event, calling on users to meet at Area 51, the US Air Force base in Nevada that's long been a source of alien conspiracy theories, in September.
"If we Naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets," the page says, referencing the Japanese manga-inspired running style with arms outstretched backwards and heads forward. "Let's see them aliens."
A pinned post on the page attempts to cover its bases, reading "Hello US government, this is a joke, and I do not actually intend to go ahead with this plan. I just thought it would be funny and get me some thumbsy uppies on the internet." But as the event has gained traction -- inspiring dozens of memes and jokes -- the profile of the situation has risen, so much so that the US Air Force has been made aware of the potential impending raid.
And they're not as lighthearted about the situation as folks on the internet are.
"[Area 51] is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces," a spokeswoman told The Washington Post. "The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets."
CNN has reached out to the Air Force and is waiting to hear back.

Area 51 has been a source of alien conspiracy theories for decades

Area 51 was officially acknowledged as an Air Force base in 2013, but has spurred conspiracy theories as an unidentified flying object and alien holding site for decades. In short, it's thought that Area 51 holds all the government secrets about aliens -- though the CIA has published documents confirming its use as a test base.
But it has since been confirmed that the US government has spent $22 million researching UFOs. Just last month a group of US senators were briefed on UFO encounters the US Navy has had, too.

NDC commandant call for Positive Engagement among youths in Nigeria

The Commandant National Defence College Nigeria (NDC) Rear Admiral Mackson Makanju Kadiri has called for positive engagement of youths in positive activities and gainful employment as one of the steps towards addressing the issues of youth restiveness and social instability in the country. The commandant made the call when he addressed participants at a “Roundtable on Youths Restiveness and Social Instability in Nigeria: Role of Governance” organised by the Centre of Strategic Research and Studies, NDC in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria. The event which was held recently at the NDC Officers’ Mess had participants from the armed forces, paramilitary/ security agencies, MDAs and academic institutions in attendance.

Delivering the welcome remark at the event, Rear Admiral Mackson Kadiri, stated that “the inability of the youth to find meaningful life via honest means creates social imbalance that makes young people prone to some socio-economic vices such as electoral violence, kidnapping, armed robbery, internet fraud and so on” He added that there was a large youth population in the country that had not been optimal managed to effectively contribute to national security. Hence the cumulative effects of the situation had created national security challenges. However, he stated that the potentials of the nation’s youths could be put to good use with viable strategic options.
Commandant NDC Nigeria, Rear Admiral MM Kadiri

The special guest of honour at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Olusade Olusola in his keynote address stated that good governance was a potent tool that could be used to address youth restiveness and social instability. Also, he added that good governance comprised good citizen’s participation in decision making by the government; accountability of government; transparency in governance; rule of law as well as efficiency and effectiveness of governance. Furthermore, he mentioned, that every government must strive to ensure openness, responsiveness and inclusiveness in order to boost citizen’s confidence in the government.   He thereafter, urged the government to create conducive environment for youth engagement in profitable ventures in order to reduce the incidence of Youth restiveness and social instability.
