Today a nation is dependent not only on its army but also on its
intelligence agencies to counter external and internal threats. These
intel agencies know all your dirty secrets and that is exactly the fact
that makes them so dangerous.
Here are some of the most feared intelligence agencies around the world.
Headquarters: Islamabad Founded: 1948
ISI is Pakistan’s most important intel agency. The organization is so
powerful that it practically runs the country, along with the army. It
is often rated among the top intel agencies in the world.
Throughout the years, the ISI has acted as a kind of the backbone of
the Pakistan government. The defeat of USSR in Afghanistan is often
considered as its most important victory.
Headquarters: New Delhi Founded: 1968
While IB, deals with the internal matters, the RAW is more concerned
with external affairs. The agency’s main focus is to monitor the
movement and activities of its neighbors, especially China and Pakistan.
The agency played a vital role in the creation of Bangladesh, in the
year 1971. It also helped the government conduct nuke test with absolute
secrecy. RAW also found out about Pakistan’s main nuclear weapons
laboratory, Kahuta. It also intercepted calls between Pakistan
government and the Army, which ultimately led to India’s victory.
3. Mossad (HaMossad leModiʿin uleTafkidim Meyuḥadim), Israel
Image sourceHeadquarters: Tel Aviv Founded: 1949
Mossad is like the godfather of all intelligence agencies. The agency
has been a part of some of the most daring undercover operations the
world has ever seen. It is often believed that it is because of Mossad
that Israel is still able to hold its ground.
During their famous Entebbe Rescue, all the Mossad agents dressed up
as Ugandan soldiers and one agent was even made to look like the
president of Uganda, Idi Amin. They created a perfect replica of Amin’s
motorcade. They freed all the Israelis and even destroyed many Ugandan
Jets.
After 11 Israeli athletes were murdered during the 1972 Munich
Olympics by a terrorist group called Black September. Mossad decided to
seek revenge.
They employed their agents and spies and killed all the suspected conspirators.
4. CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), U.S.A.
Image sourceHeadquarters: Fairfax, Virginia Founded: 1947
The CIA is often considered as the reason behind America’s domination
over the world. The agency plays a vital role in maintaining America’s
position as a superpower. Operation PBSUCCESS, in which US-backed rebels
overthrew the democratically elected president of Guatemala and the
assassination of Osama, are some of its major success.
Well, having said that The CIA has also had it’s fair share of
failures too. But still, it remains one of the best intel agencies in
the world.
5. MI6 (Military Intelligence, Section 6), UK
Image sourceHeadquarters: London Founded: 1909
The MI6 is one of the oldest existing intelligence agencies in the
world. The agency has been in operation even before the world war I. The
agency is often considered to be the reason Britain’s victory in the
world wars.
It was this agency’s intel that helped not only Britain to stay out of Hilter’s hand but also defeating Hitler.
Even today the agency works with top agencies like CIA to helps them in their missions.
6. GRU (Main Intelligence Agency), Russia
Image sourceHeadquarters: Moscow Founded: 1918
It is Russia’s main intelligence agency. Before the fall of USSR, the
country’s main spy agency was the KGB. The GRU was formed as Soviet
military intelligence organization and engaged only in foreign
intelligence activities.
It is said that after the fall of USSR, it was this agency that has
helped Russia to once become a major threat to all the superpowers. It
became more important after Boris Yeltsin discontinued the KGB in the
year 1996.
7. MSS (Ministry of State Security), China
Image sourceHeadquarters: Beijing Founded: 1983
The MSS is the chief intelligence body of the country. It looks after
both the internal and external matters. Apart from keeping, China
updated about the world affairs, the agency also works internally, so
that , the popularity of Communist party is maintained.
Over the years, it has played a major role in curbing any
anti-communist or anti- government revolts. The strength and the
popularity of the communist party are quite dependent on this agency.
8. BND ( Bundesnachrichtendienst), Germany
Image sourceHeadquarters: Pullach and Berlin Founded: 1956
Speaking in terms of technology, this agency is second to none. Its
surveillance system is often considered world class. Throughout it
helped the country either by giving early warnings or by completely
eliminating the danger.
When it comes to getting inside information about the Middle East and Latin America, they are few agencies which can beat it.
9. DGSE (General Directorate for External Security), France
Image sourceHeadquarters: Paris Founded: 1982
Like most of the agencies, it is concerned with external threats and
affairs. Although, it is relatively young when compared to its other
counterparts, yet the agency is often considered as one of the best in
the world.
A huge part of the french revenue actually goes to this agency. It
has more than 5000 employees. It helps France to keep a check on various
terrorist activities and especially ISIS.
France has always being a hot target, especially for the Algerian and
Arab terrorist groups and this agency single-handedly has eliminated
most of the treats. The agency works with the French police force which
helps it to speed up it process. It believes in maintaining a low
profile.
10. ASIS ( Australian Secret Intelligence Service), Australia
Image sourceHeadquarters: Canberra Founded: 1952
Although the country has successfully kept itself away various
international crisis, yet, it still maintains a strong intelligence
agency. It is one of the most efficient intelligence agencies and has
its basic interest centered in Asia and pacific regions.
Its agents are spread across the world and collect valuable
information. The agency works with such secrecy that for many years many
people in the Australian government itself were unaware of its
activities. It was first mentioned in the Australian Parliament in the
year 1975 and publically acknowledged only in the year 1977.
So, tonight if you sleep peacefully, it is probably because of these
agencies, work day and night, to eliminate all threats and helps the
country to maintain peace and order.
A US airstrike has killed 60 Islamist extremist fighters in Somalia, in one of the deadliest ever such operations against the al-Shabaab organisation in the unstable eastern African country.
The US military said Friday’s airstrike occurred near the al-Shabaab-controlled community of Harardere in Mudug province in the central part of the country. According to its assessment no civilians were injured or killed.
It was the most lethal US airstrike since a November 2017 attack that killed about 100 al-Shabaab fighters. The statement gave no further details about what was targeted, and a US military spokesman said it was not a camp.
The US has carried out more than three dozen airstrikes, including drone strikes, this year against the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab, the deadliest Islamic extremist group in sub-Saharan Africa.
At least five have occurred in the last month.
The use of air power in Somalia has been steadily increasing since before Donald Trump became US president.
Trump relaxed guidelines intended to prevent civilian casualties and gave local military commanders greater authority in ordering attacks.
Last year there were 31 such attacks and 15 in 2016, according to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington-based research institute.
The US Africa command spokesman said the airstrike had no link to the anniversary of a massive bomb that killed nearly 600 people in Mogadishu.
The United States, which also has targeted a small number of fighters linked to the Islamic State group in northern Somalia, has increased its military presence in Somalia since early 2017 to about 500 personnel after Trump approved expanded military operations.
Al-Shabaab, which has been fighting to establish an Islamic state in Somalia for almost a decade, continues to hold parts of the country’s south and central regions after being chased out of Mogadishu several years ago.
The group, which is affiliated with al-Qaida, has proved tenacious and regularly carries out deadly attacks against high-profile targets such as hotels and checkpoints in the capital and other cities. It also remains a threat in parts of neighbouring Kenya.
Some observers have questioned the effectiveness of airstrikes by the US and Kenya and raised concerns about civilians being killed.
An investigation by the Guardian earlier this year found that more than 50 civilians were killed or injured in airstrikes in the last six months of 2017. At least two attacks involved US aircraft.
The US military maintains that airstrikes “reduce al-Shabaab’s ability to plot future attacks, disrupt its leadership networks and degrade its freedom of manoeuvre within the region”.
In a press release, the US Africa command said the strike on Friday had been carried out in coordination with the federal government of Somalia, but gave no further details.
There are some pretty unusual medical conditions that can disqualify you from serving in the military.
In order to join the military you need to qualify medically. And while there are some obvious stipulations, like the fact that you can’t be carrying diseases that will endanger your platoon, there are other disqualifying conditions that might surprise you. These are common likely medical conditions that might disqualify you. Note: it varies country by country.
You can’t have flat feet. Though this is one of the most widely argued-about conditions that can bar you from the military, the answer is yes — it is real. While someone who has flat feet can serve in the military, it depends on the severity. If someone has “symptomatic” flat feet, which indicates that the condition causes the person chronic physical pain, then he or she cannot serve. Your butt can’t be too big. Spinal disorders and conditions are taken very seriously by the military. Many of the jobs have stringent physical demands and standards, and having any sort of back issue can be detrimental to your health, and the readiness of the force. You need to take care of your teeth. Your dental health is very important when joining the military; you can’t have too many cavities. IT will disqualify you from service. Having braces can also temporarily disqualify you, also. Your testicles have to be … normal. You have to have normal genitalia to be in the military. Too big or Too small can be a problem, Absence of one or both testicles, whether congenital, acquired, or unexplained absence of a testicle is also unacceptable according to military standards.
You can’t Have Ta too, This varies from the kind of Country you live in Mostly in African countries, like here in Nigeria, Tattoo is a big no for military candidates. You can’t have eczema or acne. Despite the fact that the dry-skin rash and the oily-skin condition aren’t contagious, you can’t have either and join the military. Eczema — though it can be maintained with prescription — can also be debilitating. It’s dry, itchy, and it spreads. Acne, on the other hand, runs the gamut from requiring antibiotics to interfering with proper wear of a gas mask. But there is hope in certain cases. You cant have a recent fresh surgery or deep scar In certain cases, and in the event that you have a good Military exam score and selection points, a medical waiver option is available. For some, certain military board selectors will work with you and advocate on your behalf in certain instances where they believe your condition won’t interfere with your service.
Most common defects include
High Blood pressure
Anal tags
STDs
Bone defect
Bow leg
knock knees
sickle cell
Albinoism
Short sightedness
long Sightedness
Hydrocele/Phimosis Wax (Ears) Under sized chest Gynaecomastia
There are many more but they varies country by country, The list up here is a common factor in African military institutions. Also note that not in all circumstances you might be disqualified because of this, there are always miracle but just happen in few times.
Although its a nice thing to use a private hospital to check oneself before going for any military selection screening, but if you can access a military hospital before that, its going to make sense a lot as they are experienced in what will be checked or not, what qualifies and what disqualify, discuss with the doctor. It saves yo stress of eviction in the real military medical screening you will be going for.
Facebook on Monday said it removed 13 pages and 10 accounts that were used to spread military propaganda in Myanmar.
The removals are the latest in an ongoing effort by Facebook to fight the spread of misinformation on its social network.
Facebook
said it removed numerous pages and accounts linked to the Myanmar
military that were being used to spread propaganda to approximately 1.35
million people, the company's latest effort to crack down on the spread
of misinformation across its network.
"We want to make it more difficult for
people to manipulate our platform in Myanmar and will continue to
investigate and take action on this behavior," Facebook said in a blog post
on Monday. The company said it removed 13 pages and 10 accounts that
were "engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior on Facebook in
Myanmar."
Facebook has been plagued
by abusive activity over the last couple of years, as groups exploit
the social network to spread propaganda, abusive content and false
information, often in an effort to influence elections or stir up hate
between different cultural groups.
In Myanmar, Facebook was used as
part of a campaign that targeted the country's Muslim Rohingya minority
group, according to a report Monday by the New York Times,
which cites unnamed "former military officials, researchers and
civilian officials in the country." The campaign included the creation
of Facebook accounts and entertainment, beauty and informational pages
that were used to push incendiary comments and posts.
Facebook announced in
August that it wanted to prevent organizations and individuals in
Myanmar from using its services to commit or enable serious human rights
abuses in the country. At the time, the company said it was removing 18
Facebook accounts, 52 pages and one Instagram account that reached
nearly 12 million people.
Beyond Myanmar, the
company has been busy removing pages and accounts that abuse its
community guidelines and policies. Last week, for example, Facebook said
it had taken down 559 pages and 251 accounts that were being used to spam users with clickbait posts.
Thirty-One years ago, the leader of
Burkina Faso's revolution, Thomas Sankara, was cut down in a hail of
bullets - a bloody end to a turbulent yet charismatic memory that has
remains alive globally. Today marks 31 years since his assassination.
The Thomas Sankara we knew
The
young army captain who took power in the deeply poor nation in 1983 has
been nicknamed "Africa's Che Guevara," a monicker that reflects his
anti-imperialist convictions almost as much as the way he died.
"Kill
Sankara and thousands of Sankaras shall be born," he is said to have
declared in 1987. Just a few months later he would be assassinated as he
headed to a government meeting.
Born on
December 21, 1949, at Yako in the dusty north of what was then Upper
Volta, the future officer was 12 when his homeland attained independence
from France.
Once in power after an August 1983 coup, Sankara
would rebaptise the country Burkina Faso, or "land of upright men", and
introduce progressist policies that distanced his regime from other
former colonies in what France regarded as its backyard in Africa.
Sankara's
priority policies were to clean up public finances and trim a bloated
civil service, to bring improvements in health, to increase access to
education and to take rural measures to meet the aspirations of peasant
farmers.
"We have to decolonise mentalities,"
Sankara said. Sankara urged struggling African nations to stop paying
their debt to the West. "The debt cannot be reimbursed because if we
don't pay, our creditors won't die. But if we pay, it's us who will die.
Be sure of it," he argued.
His programmes however revealed Sankara's
iron-fisted side, which included sacking striking teachers and arrest of
trade Union leaders whom he said were backed by the opposition.
Burkina Faso Celebrate Sankara 31 years after his assassination
President
of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Kabore, says the memory of the country’s
former leader, Thomas Sankara, remains alive the world over and that he
was poised to ensure justice is done in the case of his murder.
Kabore
wrote in a tweet on the 31st anniversary of Sankara’s murder lauded his
sacrifice for the emancipation and dignity of Burkinabes.
“15 Oct. 2018, the memory of president Thomas
Sankara remains alive throughout the world. His sacrifice for the
emancipation and dignity of the people of Burkina Faso will not be in
vain.
I reiterate my commitment to work for the culmination of justice in the case of his murder.
“I
reiterate my commitment to work for the culmination of justice in the
case of his murder. Rk (Roch Kabore),” the president wrote in a
personally signed tweet.
Ousted president Blaise
Compaore – currently on exile in next door Ivory Coast – is suspected
to be behind the killing of Sankara, his predecessor.
An international warrant was issued for Compaore’s
arrest in December 2015 for the charges of “murder”, “assassination” and
“corpse concealment” after an investigation by Burkina Faso
authorities.
Compaore has been indicted for his
alleged involvement in the assassination of President Thomas Sankara who
was killed on October 15, 1987 during a coup that brought him to power.
He
was charged with “murder”, “assassination” and “corpse concealment” as
part of the open enquiry in March 2015 by the Burkina Faso transition
authorities.
Compaore stayed in power between 1987 till 2014
when he was ousted by an uprising. He was a top associate of Sankara but
reportedly led the coup d’etat that killed Sankara.
Thomas
Sankara is widely described as a pro-people revolutionary,
pan-Africanist who led the West African country from 1983 to 1987. He
was seen as a charismatic and iconic figure of revolution, often
referred to as “Africa’s Che Guevara”.

Detimbir Chia, the 14-year-old boy who discovered the site of a Nigerian air
force jet that crashed in 2006, has joined the army. On Saturday October 6 2018, Chia graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) after spending four years, and was decorated as a 2nd lieutenant, the lowest rank of a commissioned officer in the Nigerian army.
Officer cadet Chia 66rc Pass out parade
The incident all happened on September 17, 2006, when an aircraft conveying 15 senior military officers and three crew members crashed into a hill in a remote village in Kwande local government area of Benue. The officers were on their way to Obudu cattle ranch in Cross River, to attend aretreat when the Dornier 228-212,crashed.
The plane had on board eight major-generals, two brigadier-generals, two wing commanders, one lieutenantcolonel, and three crew members.Chia, who was working at his family farm
not far from the scene of the incident, called his father with the phone of one
of the victims. Thirteen lives were lost in the tragic incident, with five survivors.
Chia in Nda @ Termer 1
Late Patrick Owoye Azazi, then chief of
army staff under ex-President Olusegun
Obasanjo, had asked Chai what he wanted
to become.
He had replied, “a soldier”, and Azazi
promised to help him secure admission
into the NDA.
Azazi was said to have missed death as
he decided not to go with the senior
officers when he found out that the
plane was already full. He would later
die in a helicopter crash on December
15, 2012.
The officers who died in the crash J.O. Adesunloye, S.O Otubu, J.O Agboola, S.M Lemu, A.N Bamali, P.M Haruna, J.T.U Ahmedu and B. Duniya, all major-generals.Others were Y.J Braimah, M.B Bawa, and wing commanders O. Balogun. EO Adekunle (pilot) and lieutenant-colonel
N.A Mohammed, brigadier-generals.
Luther Agwai, then chief of defence staff, said the 13 officers represented some of the best in the Nigerian military.
During the 10th year remembrance anniversary of the fallen heroes, Agwai said the Nigeria may have surmounted its insurgency crises if the officers were alive.
“I can make bold to say that if they
were around, may be some of the
challenges that we are facing today
wouldn’t have gotten to the level that
they reached”, Agwai said in 2016.
“Their death up to their burial was one
of the most trying, most difficult time
I ever had in my career. And if you
remember my military career, I have
been involved in Sierra-Leone, Dafur,
but all what I saw there did not
traumatize me like what happened to
these people because these were officers
that I knew personally.”
